Configuring Outlook Email on Apple iPhone

These instructions are meant to be used with an iPhone. If you are running a version of iOS that is not iOS7, or if you are using a different type of smartphone such as an Android or Windows phone, some settings may be different.

Before setting up your email, contact Information Technology Help Desk at 214.333.5500 to make sure your account is activated.

Disclaimer: By using your DBU email on your phone, you agree that DBU has the ability to perform the following actions if necessary.
Set password rules: Control the length and the characters allowed in screen-unlock passwords.
Monitor screen-unlock attempts: Monitor the number of incorrect passwords typed when unlocking the screen,
Lock the Screen: Control how and when the screen locks.
Set lock-screen password expiration: Control how frequently the lock-screen password must be changed.
Erase all data: Erase the phone’s data by performing a factory data reset. This could render the phone unusable until it is reconnected to a personal computer.
Set storage encryption: Require that stored app data be encrypted.
Disable cameras: Prevent use of all device cameras. The above actions are unlikely but users should know of the potential of these actions affecting mobile devices.

Important Information:

If your account does not sync your emails within an hour of setting up your account, or if you run into any issues call the Information Technology Help Desk at 214.333.5500, email support@dbu.edu, or stop by the Help Desk on the 2nd floor of the Collins Learning Center.

Instructions:

On the home screen: Click on the Settings app.

Scroll down the settings and select “Mail, Contacts, Calendars.”

Under Accounts, click “Add Account.”

Choose “Microsoft Exchange.”

The following Active Directory* information is required to setup your email account:
Email:username@dbu.edu
Password: login password
Description: DBU

Once you have filled out all the information click “Next.”

Your phone will take a few moments (up to several minutes) to verify the information.

*Active Directory is the username and password used to access DBU computers in your campus office.

You will be prompted with another field on the screen. Fill in the following information:
Server: webmail.dbu.edu
Domain: adc

Select “Next” and your phone will verify the server information.

Note: If you are prompted with a question that mentions security, press “Continue.”

Configure the settings that you want to have synced to your phone. We recommend “Mail”, “Calendars”, and “Reminders". If you also select to sync "Contacts", the address list in your DBU email account will be downloaded to your phone's address book.

Select “Save” once you are done

Return back to the home screen, wait a few moments, and click “Mail.”

If your account is set up correctly you should see “DBU” under your inboxes.

Allow 30-60 minutes for your phone to completely sync on the network.

These instructions are meant to be used with an Android mobile device. If you are running an older version of Android software or if you are using a different type of smartphone such as an iPhone or Windows phone, some settings may be different in the configuration of the device.

Before setting up your email, contact Information Technology Help Desk at 214.333.5500 to make sure your account is activated.

Important Information:

Once your account is set up on your phone, receiving mail will work whether you are on the campus wireless or off site.

Instructions:

On the home screen: Click on the settings app.

Under settings scroll down until you find “accounts,” select “Add Account.”

Choose “Corporate”, “Exchange”, or “Active Sync” depending on the Android version you are currently running.

The following Active Directory* information is required to setup your email account:

Username: username@dbu.edu
Password: login password

Click “Next.”

*Active Directory is the username and password used to access DBU computers in your campus office.

After your phone loads the settings, click “Edit details.”

Add “adc” in front of the username

Change the Server to “webmail.dbu.edu”
Check “Use secure connection (SSL)
Check “Accept all SSL certificates”

Select “Next” and your phone will verify the information.

This screen determines what items from Outlook the user would like to have synced to their account.

We recommend using, “Send email from this account by default, Notify me when email arrives, Sync calendar from this account, and Automatically download attachments when connected to Wi-Fi.” If you also select to sync "Contacts", the address list in your DBU email account will be downloaded to your phone's address book.

Click “Done.”

Select “Activate.”

If your account has been created successfully, you will come to this page on your phone.

Select “Next”

Once your account is set up, you will be able to send and receive emails on and off campus on your phone. Allow 30-60 minutes for your phone to completely sync on the DBU network.
