DBU Announces Completion of Pilgrim Chapel
July 3, 2012 | by Kalie Lowrie
Dallas, TX – Dallas Baptist University is pleased to announce the completion of the Patty and Bo Pilgrim Chapel campaign on the University campus.
Lonnie “Bo” Pilgrim, co-founder of Pilgrim’s Pride Corporation, recently gave a $2 million gift to the University to complete the $25 million fundraising effort on Pilgrim Chapel. This significant gift completes Mr. Pilgrim’s pledge of $8 million for the chapel’s construction.
"We are thrilled beyond expression for the generous outpouring of gifts from all of our donors to this incredible building project,” shared Dr. Adam Wright, DBU vice president for advancement. “The completion of Mr. Pilgrim's $8 million gift signals an incredible milestone for DBU as we celebrate the completion of the largest fund-raising effort in our 114 year history. We could not be more thankful for Patty and Bo Pilgrim and the significant lead gift they gave to help make the dream of building a chapel become a reality."
The chapel project began in August 2006 as the largest construction effort in the University’s history. It was completed just three years later, and the first chapel service was held in September 2009. With 78,600 square feet, the building encompasses a sanctuary, banquet hall, the Orville and Esther Beth Intercessory Prayer Ministry, the Gary Cook Graduate School of Leadership, classrooms, and faculty offices. Standing at 192 feet tall, the structure is the most noticeable building on campus and can be seen from miles away.
DBU’s Monday, Wednesday, and Friday student chapel services are held in the Pilgrim Chapel as well as major campus events such as lectures, musical performances, and weddings.
