DBU Set to Host Annual Memorial Day Service
March 23, 2014 | by John Mark Miller
Dallas, TX – Dallas Baptist University will host its 17th Annual Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 26, at 1:30 p.m. in the John G. Mahler Student Center on the DBU main campus. This year’s guest speaker will be DBU alumnus Texas State Representative Ron Simmons from the 65th District of Texas. The event is free and open to the public. Pre-program patriotic music will begin at 1:00 p.m.
A DBU tradition, the Memorial Day Service is a special time for area veterans and families of veterans, both living and deceased, to praise God for His blessings on our country and to remember and honor those who have given their lives for our country and those who continue to put themselves in harm’s way to protect our freedom.
The program will include patriotic music performed by DBU faculty and students, greetings by DBU President Dr. Gary Cook, and remarks by Rep. Simmons. A reception for World War II Veterans will be held in the Hunt Dining Room from 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Rep. Simmons began serving in the Texas House of Representatives in 2013. In his first year, he was recognized as a leader in the House and was named to the Elections Committee and the Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee.
Born and raised in Arkansas, Ron and his wife, Lisa, moved to Dallas in the 1980s, where he began a successful career in the financial industry, and in 2010, D Magazine named him one of the top financial advisors in the DFW area. In 2012, DBU presented him with the Distinguished Alumnus Award. Ron and Lisa have three adult children and one grandchild and are active members at Prestonwood Baptist Church.
