- What
is online learning or distance education?
Online learning is a form
of distance learning that takes place using computer technology
and the Internet. Distance learning is learning that takes
place when the faculty and the students are separated by
distance, i.e., not in the same room.

- How
much do the DBU online courses cost?
2008-2009 tuition for Dallas Baptist University's online
education is $1,764 for each undergraduate 3-hour course
and $1,794 for each 3-hour graduate course. For a 4-hour
undergraduate course, the tuition is $2,352.

are my payment options?
Students may use the installment plan. For more

- Will
financial aid be available to me?
Yes. You may apply for financial aid if you complete the
necessary applications and demonstrate eligibility for the
aid you request. To receive financial aid information, please

- What
sort of technical equipment do I need to take this course?
For a complete list of technical requirements, please see
the Technical
Requirements page on this site. For students accessing
DBU Online from a university-owned computer on campus, the
use of university equipment depends on computer availability
and operating hours of the Academic Computer Lab.

- As
a part-time student, will this course go on my transcript?
Yes, all courses will go on your transcript. However, it
will not be listed as an "online course."

- Is
DBU accredited?
Dallas Baptist University is accredited by the Commission
on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and
Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097:
Telephone number 404-679-4501) to award associate, bachelor’s,
master’s, and doctoral degrees. Inquiries to the accreditors
should relate only to the accreditation status of the institution.
The teacher education programs of the University are accredited
by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC). The
College of Business is nationally accredited by the Association
of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) to offer
the Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) and the
Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degrees.

- What
if I have a problem or question when I am online?
DBU Online provides a telephone "HelpDesk", for technical
support (not academic support), without additional charge.
Telephone support is available twenty-four (24) hours a
day, seven (7) days a week. You may phone the HelpDesk at
1-866-264-1560. The maximum response time for a telephone
support request is twenty-four (24) hours.

I be able to speak to an advisor?
Yes. You may contact your academic advisor online or on
the telephone. For more information regarding your academic

- Can
I transfer the credits for an online course to another university?
The credits you earn from the courses offered through DBU
Online should be transferable to other higher education
institutions. However, the extent to which these credits
will be accepted by another institution is determined by
that institution.

I make a good online student?
A good way to determine whether online learning is for you
is to take the self-assessment questionnaire Is
Online Learning for Me? This questionnaire is located
at University of Illinois.

- Do
I have to be admitted to DBU to take an online course?
Yes. To be admitted, contact admiss@dbu.edu
or telephone (800) 460-1DBU (1328), or go to Admissions
and fill out the online application.

- Will
I get credit for the course I take?
Yes. If you are a full-time or part-time student, you will
receive credit for any of these courses, assuming you complete
the course with a passing grade. The credit you receive
will be from DBU.

- What
if I need to get books from the library?
All students receive access to the DBU Library catalog.
Go to www.dbu.edu/library to locate
the desired book(s). DBU library staff will locate your
selection and send the books to you via regular mail. You
will also receive access to online databases.

- How
will I receive my grades?
DBU has implemented the WebAdvisor System to access student
information via the Internet. Final grades will be available
online as soon as they are entered by the faculty member
and will no longer be mailed to students. The Registrar's
Office will only mail grades to a student upon request.

- Do
I have to be a full-time student to take an online course?
No. You do not have to be a full-time student to take an
online course at DBU. In fact, many of our online students
attend DBU part-time.

- What
does "asynchronous" mean?
Within semester limits, the DBU Online courses are totally
asynchronous which means students may sign on any time,
24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Asynchronous learning is
learning where the instructor and the students need not
be in the same room at the same time, nor need they be on
the computer at the same time. Except where the faculty
member has established test dates and time, chat reviews,
etc., students do not need to log in at the same time as
other students or at the same time as the instructor.

- How
do I get the books for my course?
DBU Online course textbooks may be purchased online at http://www.dbubooks.com.

- Can
I use a bookcard to purchase my books online?
A bookcard cannot be used to purchase books online. A bookcard
requires an original signature from the student at the time
the books are purchased from the bookstore.

- If
I am a corporate student, will I still need to pay for the
online course at the time of registration?
You will need to check with your employer to determine if
your company offers a tuition reimbursement policy. Students who are employed by one
of the companies listed below may have a tuition reimburesement policy and would need to check with their employer:
