MSITM Student Camila Ramos Awarded Multiple Scholarships Aimed at Empowering Women
Seven years ago, Camila Ramos, knowing close to no English, left her hometown of Bogotá, Colombia, to come to the United States. Today, Camila is an advocate for equality, a distinguished scholar, a master's student, and she is setting the bar high for college students everywhere.
Camila is currently in pursuit of her Masters of Science in Information Technology and Management with a concentration in Business Intelligence and Analytics at DBU. She also serves on campus as a student experience manager in the Master of Science in Information Technology and Management (MSITM) department. It is through these programs, the tutelage and guidance of devoted Program Director Sharon Gorikapudi, and her own devotion to excellence that Camila has been able to accomplish all she has over the past year.
Last year, Camila received an email from DBU alerting students that the Zonta International Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship deadline had been extended. Zonta advocates for policies to promote and protect the human rights of women and girls around the world. Some of Zonta’s goals include achieving equality, ending gender-based violence and child marriage, and expanding the access of education across the globe. Eager to support and be involved with a program with such a great cause, Camila sent in her application in hopes of becoming a recipient. Not long after, she received a call from Ms. Deana Wall asking her to submit further documentation.
Last year, Camila received the Jane M. Klausman Women in Business 2020 scholarship through the Zonta Club of Dallas, Zonta District 10, and her Zonta region. Finally, on December 7th, 2020, Camila was selected as one of only 32 students worldwide to receive global recognition from Zonta International.
But Camila’s achievements do not stop there. Camila, after being encouraged by her Program Director Sharon Gorikapudi to join, is a member of The Project Management Institute (PMI). PMI and PMI Educational Foundation (PMIEF) offer opportunities such as academic and professional scholarships, project participation, mentorship, resources, tools, and volunteer work regardless of a person’s location. Through PMI, Camila has been able to participate in events and conferences, serve her community, build relationships with other members, and collaborate with leaders and professionals in the fields of business and technology from all over the world. She received the Wayne K. Latham Project Management Scholarship from the PMIEF and PMI Dallas in 2020.
Along with her awards from Zonta and PMIEF, Camila is a Dana Juett Resident for Social Venture Partners- Dallas which helps young professionals become philanthropic leaders through nine months of hands-on learning and experience of philanthropy. Camila is also a finalist for the Texas Business Hall of Fame and leads the Salesforce Student Chapter at DBU.
Camila is grateful for her University and her program: “My experience at DBU has been remarkable in my personal, academic, and professional path. I have learned that my driving force is my faith, my family, growth, and contribution,” she says.
“Thanks to the MSITM program, I have recognized the importance of having a growth mindset and being adaptable.” It is Camila's aspiration "to make a positive impact in today’s world by serving and guiding others to bring out the best version of themselves through their academic and professional journeys.” Leading with her heart and mind set on making our world a better place, she is an excellent example each student should strive to emulate.
