Commissional Corner: November 2021
"I am a diligent pathfinder who discovers creative solutions to challenges by continuously observing, thinking, and anticipating diversity."
Cyndy was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea. With both parents working, Cyndy learned at a young age to be independent and autonomous. Her mother's favorite story to tell is how at the age of four, Cyndy learned to lock the door and hop on the school bus alone and to make rice using the rice cooker by the first grade. Among the many pros of having working parents, Cyndy was given ample opportunities to tag along on international business trips. From Finland to Egypt to Singapore, Cyndy was able to travel to 57 cities in 22 countries by the time she went off to university.
Traveling frequently from a young age sparked Cyndy's passion for communication and language. As a result, Cyndy decided to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics with a minor in Educational Psychology at McGill University. Throughout her undergraduate degree, Cyndy consistently found herself in volunteer teaching positions.
This sparked a realization that her biggest passions in life were cultural exchanges and education. These experiences led Cyndy to pursue a Master of Education in Educational Psychology with a concentration in Inclusive Education. Cyndy is highly devoted to ensuring individuals of all backgrounds and capabilities have tools for success and learning spaces that are safe, expressive, and non-discriminating.
During her graduate studies, Cyndy reconnected with her first boyfriend from high school and later married him in 2020. Her husband, Harim Jung, is also a full-time student and staff member at Dallas Baptist University. He is an Assistant Director of Global Recruitment at the International Admissions and Immigration office and studies Worship Leadership and Music Business. Most recently, Harim and Cyndy served as worship leaders at Duncanville's First Baptist Church before they were called to minister to young adults at Hanuri Korean Baptist Church.
Cyndy is thrilled to work at the Graduate School of Ministry and continue her studies as a Doctor of Education candidate at DBU. "DBU has been such a joy and inspiration—it has helped me not only to refine a firm theoretical foundation in K-12 Educational Leadership but also challenged me to give absolute love and obedience to the Lord who supplies every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus (Phil. 4:19)."
The Graduate School of Ministry provides training for individuals who sense God's call to ministry. The mission of the Graduate School of Ministry integrates foundations of Christian faith and values with professional academic studies.
