DBU Student Alexis Delagarza Selected for the Charley Pride Fellow Internship with the Texas Rangers

DBU student Alexis Delagarza at Globe Life Field interning as a part of the Charley Pride Fellowship

In 2021, the Texas Rangers founded a unique internship program called the Charley Pride Fellowship. This program focuses on investing in college students from diverse backgrounds interested in pursuing a career in major league sports. Each year, the Rangers select five students for the 10-week program, during which they gain hands-on experience in the team's front office departments. The students will learn the ins and outs of sports marketing, team branding, and sports production as they shadow various departments within the office throughout the summer.

This spring, rising senior at DBU Alexis Delagarza applied for the Charley Pride Fellowship. After crafting her resume, gathering two recommendation letters, and submitting a personal essay, Alexis was notified that she had been selected as a finalist. She completed a Zoom interview with the hiring manager, and later that day, she received a call saying she had been chosen for the program. "My first day as a Charley Pride Fellow, we were taken on the field at Globe Life Field and introduced at the beginning of a game. Hearing my name through those speakers and being in front of all those people was surreal."

During Alexis' first three-week rotation, she has been working closely with the Texas Rangers marketing department. She has watched the social media team in the press box during games and shadowed Hannah Wing, the Rangers' in-game host. Her subsequent rotations will include learning about REV branding and operations. "My favorite part has been meeting so many new people. It is still crazy to me, even after four weeks, that I have this opportunity. Every day, when I leave Globe Life Field, I can't help but feel so thankful."

Alexis is pursuing a degree in Communication: Broadcast and Digital Media at DBU and works on-campus as a Production Assistant for the College of Fine Arts. Alexis's professor and academic advisor, Chris Fore, shared, "Alexis has been an excellent student. She has worked hard and excelled in production and digital content to prepare for this incredible opportunity." In his classes, Professor Fore stresses the importance of becoming a "generalist" within the field so that when students graduate, they have the knowledge and skills to work in many areas. Professor Fore is thankful to see the Texas Rangers embrace a similar philosophy with the Charley Pride Fellowship.

Alexis will graduate from DBU in May 2025, and she plans to pursue a career in major league baseball. She would love to work full-time for the Texas Rangers in the future, but she is open to seeing what the Lord has in store for her.
