SUMMER 2021 29 marketing. Post-graduation, she will be working for a home appraisal company in Mansfield. She is excited for both the opportunity to exercise her love for real estate and the time she will now have to also explore and pursue her calling in music. “He must become greater, I must become less.” John 3:30 “It is sad that my time at DBU is coming to an end,” Macy concludes, “but I am so thankful for the strong, wise individuals who have equipped and encouraged me in preparation for this next chapter.” Macy clings to her life verse, “He must become greater, I must become less” (John 3:30), as she prepares to begin her life outside of DBU. DBU extends a warm congratulations to Macy and all of the graduating class of 2021. DBU 2021 GRADUATE Mitchell Guthrie For 34 years, DBU has been a major part of Mitchell Guthrie’s family—a family with a passion for ministry through Christian education, the foundation of which was built on University Hill and carried on through not one, not two, but three generations. Mitchell arrived at DBU in 2016 as a transfer sophomore. “I was a business student though unsure what exactly God had in store for my life past college. I knew I had a passion for people but could not see where that passion would take me in terms of a career.” As a student, Mitchell served in leadership roles as SGA Vice President, helping increase school spirit and attendance at sporting events, and was a member of the Alpha Sigma Omega Academic Honor Society and Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Society. Mitchell graduated with his Bachelor of Business Administration in finance and marketing and joined the International Department as a full-time staff member, assisting in recruiting students from over 140 countries around the world. “I had the opportunity to travel and network with different churches, schools, pastors, and ministries in multiple countries because of this opportunity, and it really helped build my overall understanding of Christian education and ministry.” “Seeing the way DBU leaders led the University and handled different situations allowed me to grow and learn leadership skills.” This past spring, after graduating with his MBA in finance and marketing, Mitchell returned to his high school alma mater in his hometown of Rogers, Arkansas, as Director of Enrollment and Engagement at Providence Classical Christian Academy. “The opportunity to be so intricately involved at DBU has allowed me to seamlessly transition to Providence. Seeing the way DBU leaders led the University and handled different situations allowed me to grow and learn leadership skills.” Mitchell is also currently working on an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Liberty University. PCCA is a University Model School started in 2004 by his parents, Tom and Debra, who are both 1992 graduates of DBU. “Both my parents were among some of the first members from their family to attend college. My dad was a pitcher for the baseball team, awarded the DBU Patriot Legends Award in 2004, and my mom was a cheerleader. Neither of my parents received Christian education growing up; the opportunity to attend DBU was without a doubt orchestrated by God.” Mitchell’s family legacy at DBU also includes his grandmother, Shirley Mitchell, who began working in the College of Business in 1988 and served faithfully for nearly 30 years until her retirement in March of 2020. His younger brother, Brandon, also completed his degree in English and communications. Shirley Mitchell and Mitchell, Brandon, Tom, and Debra Guthrie
