DBU REPORT 4 HIS FAITHFULNESS IS OUR HOPE Lessons Learned & Looking Forward “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” For over 30 years, Jeremiah 29:11-13 has been our theme Scripture passage at DBU. Stories from former prospective students, students, and DBU alumni, often share how it was these particular verses that impacted their calling to choose University Hill. The words first spoken to Israel by the prophet Jeremiah were to sustain them through some very difficult days in their history. What assurance did they have that God would be with them? How did they know His Word would be true? They knew by looking back and remembering where they had come from. The children of Israel were continuously reminded to consider God’s history of faithfulness to them as they moved forward with hope and obedience into the future. This was the primary purpose of remembering the Passover and Exodus from Egypt wherever they went. Oftentimes, they would also mark the place where God acted in a powerful way on their behalf. One of these instances is found in 1 Samuel 7:12, following victory over the Philistines: “Then Samuel took
