DBU Report Summer 2021

DBU REPORT 8 _______________________ Wayne Briggs Director of Student Life This has been the most life-changing year for me since I graduated with my undergraduate degree. I had finally settled in as the Resident Director of Lange when the pandemic started. It was heartbreaking to spend the second half of my first year as RD relatively alone in Lange, as many sheltered in place. The news of an in-person Fall 2020 semester was such a blessing! My fellow RDs and I navigated the hectic waters of University Housing in the midst of the pandemic. Nights were long, and I was physically, mentally, and emotionally drained by November. Then, I was approached with a new job offer. To my surprise, I was offered the role of Director of Student Life, beginning Spring 2021. It took so much strength to trust that the Lord was working for my good by changing my life so drastically. After all, being an RD was my favorite job that I had ever had. Looking back on that decision, I can see that God knew I needed rest. I was reminded that even when my whole world centers on caring for others, the Lord never stops caring for me. As I transitioned into the new role, I learned the value of delegation. My student workers welcomed me so well, and we were able to move through the rest of the semester with unity and determination. “I truly believe that this upcoming year will be filled with refreshing moments for our students to enjoy.” This fall will be my first fall semester as Director of Student Life. I could not be more thrilled for the opportunities planned to engage our new and current students. I truly believe that this upcoming year will be filled with refreshing moments for our students to enjoy. The Student Life office will be working diligently over the summer to prepare for some new events as well as our campus favorites. ________________________
