DBU REPORT 36 an incredible March Madness run when the tournament was canceled, and then they had to endure a postponed start to the season. Yet, as they took the court in December, the team roared to an impressive 13-2 start, the best record through 15 games for the school, and also secured a ranking of No. 15 in the nation by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). Both the Men’s and Women’s Tennis teams are out to 4-0 starts to begin their spring seasons. It marks the first time since 2018 that the men have jumped out to a 4-0 record, while the women are 4-0 for the second consecutive spring. Baseball has also geared up for the start of their 2021 season. Last year, the Patriots were 12-4 and ranked No. 21 in the nation before the season came to an abrupt halt in mid-March due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. This past Fall, the Lone Star Conference named its list of top scholar athletes as a part of the LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll, which recognizes athletes who maintained a 3.3 GPA or higher. DBU filled the list with 123 names. “It makes me proud to know what each of these student-athletes and coaches has had to go through—from canceled seasons to canceled championships and canceled games,” added Smith. “I’ve been at DBU for 15 years, but since March, I have not been more proud and thankful to be a part of this University than I am right now.” Ray Gaither DBU Basketball Team DBU Women’s Cross Country Team
