Dr. Daniel M. Rose's Background
Danny has always possessed an interest in technology. He attended a vocational high school (Skyline High School) that helped him to focus his areas of interest in photography and videography. He was able to focus his interest in technology to complete a bachelor's degree in Radio and Television at DBU (yes, he is a DBU alum). That led to him taking a temporary job at DBU as head of Media Services, a temporary job that lasted a little over 20 years. During that time, meetings with Dr. Gail Linam (the provost at that time) and Dr. Gary Cook (then school president, now chancellor) convinced him to pursue his terminal degree.
Ten years later, he emerged as a graduate of the University of North Texas with both a Ph.D. in Educational Computing (now Learning Technologies) and an additional 18 graduate hours in Communication. During this time, he has had papers accepted and presented at the National Communication Association meeting in Chicago, Illinois, the Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education meeting in Charleston, South Carolina, the Texas Distance Learning Association meeting in Galveston, Texas and the American Educational Research Association meeting in San Francisco, California as well as the Friday Symposium at Dallas Baptist University.
A five-year stint as a volunteer for the social media team with the American Red Cross showed him the power of social media and its persuasive effect on people. His current research interests include the effect of technology on the communication process as well as various aspects of persuasion.
At an early age, his maternal grandfather told him, “you are never too old to learn,” which still challenges him to keep up with ever-changing research as he seeks to stoke the God-given fire to explore the communication process in many other fields, such as psychology, sociology, management, marketing, educational technology and yes, communication itself.
