This month DBU students had the opportunity to attend Lion’s U, a three-day conference in conjunction with Lion’s Den DFW, that allowed inspiring business leaders the opportunity to learn how they can integrate their faith with their careers. Spring Break is a week-long vacation for most college students, one that is spent catching up with family, friends, and possibly even homework. However, some students choose to attend university-led trips that provide a learning or serving experience over the break. From the beginning of January to the middle of May 2018, DBU senior Katie Evenson studied abroad in Uganda, attending Uganda Christian University in a town called Mukono. For Evenson, this opportunity to learn in another country was something that has been on her heart for a long time.

Current DBU student Ranjita Kumar grew up in an Indian orphanage. Her biological family practiced Hinduism, and she herself was a professing atheist. At the young age of seven, her biological mother placed her in a Christian orphanage.

Taking part in the 21st Century Wilberforce Emerging Leaders Conference, 20 students ventured to Washington, D.C. last week with the Cook School of Leadership. The conference aimed to educate and equip young professionals to advocate for religious liberty.

To date, the DBU Responds fund totals more than $24,000, the first shipment of water bottle cases have left for Houston, and plans are in place to send a Response and Relief Missions Team to the affected area next week.

Dallas, TX – For the sixth consecutive year, Dallas Baptist University sent a group of students to Israel for experiences touring and learning, as well as opportunities to serve.
Dallas, TX – Travel Study trips are one of the best ways for DBU students to take learning to a higher level. Recently, a group of students returned from such a trip, exploring the lives and legacies of Martin Luther and Dietrich Bonhoeffer while venturing through the country of Germany.
Dallas, TX – Bridging the gap between theory and practice is at the heart of the Graduate School of Ministry’s partnership with Sky Ranch, a Christian camp with locations in Texas, Colorado, and Oklahoma. The first cohort of students participating in the partnership program will graduate in August, after spending two years doing on-site ministry with Sky Ranch while simultaneously completing online coursework at DBU.
Dallas, TX – For the second consecutive year, Kingdom-minded entrepreneurs and Christian investors joined together on the DBU campus for The Lion’s Den DFW, an event structured similarly to the hit television series “Shark Tank.” Hosted by DBU’s Center for Business as Mission, which is led by Dr. Ross O’Brien, this year’s event featured 10 different entrepreneurs who each had the opportunity to pitch their vision, business model, and passion to a panel of expert judges.
One of the hallmarks of a DBU education is the process of learning what it means to be a Christian servant leader. Alumnus Doug Hewitt is putting his DBU education into practice through a recent business venture in northern California. Hewitt, along with a business partner, decided to launch a coffee shop that would help others while also being profitable. The result is called 1951 Coffee Shop, which is staffed exclusively by refugees.
Dallas, TX – With more than 1,000 people gathered in the Patty and Bo Pilgrim Chapel, DBU alumnus and 2016 World Series MVP Ben Zobrist recalled his historic moment during this past year’s World Series. Zobrist, who served as a veteran influence for the Chicago Cubs, had an outstanding impact on the series, culminating in a go-ahead RBI double that sealed the Cubs victory in extra innings in Game 7.
Dallas, TX – This January, the DBU dance team, the Patriettes, travelled to Northern England to spend a week in ministry, using their gift of dance to spread the love of Christ.
Dallas, TX – This past week Dallas Baptist University hosted a unique gathering of Christian media leaders from around the world for the Media Leadership Summit, sponsored by MEDIAlliance International. The event, which was held in Jim and Sally Nation Hall on the DBU campus, lasted for three days bringing together 30 religious broadcasting leaders from around the world.
Dallas, TX – Boarding a plane in DFW, Shelby Weatherly, a junior biology major at Dallas Baptist University, grew increasingly excited about the week ahead. While many of her classmates spent their Fall Breaks at participating in travel studies or visiting family at home, Weatherly decided to join a group of DBU students to serve overseas in Denia, Spain.
This June, Dallas Baptist University sent a group of 15 doctoral students to Oxford, England for the annual Oxford Institute with the Gary Cook School of Leadership. As a part of the Leadership Studies program, this trip is designed to look at globalization and the future of leadership, particularly in the areas of power, geopolitics, and cultural intelligence. In addition, the idea of Incarnational Leadership serves as an overarching theme of the experience.

The event, which took place on October 20 and 21, marked the beginning of a new series sponsored by DBU’s Institute for Global Engagement.
On October 1, 1965, Dallas Baptist College held its first day of classes. On September 30, 2015, 50 years later, Dallas Baptist University held a special anniversary chapel service to commemorate this milestone.

Dallas, TX – While most students are quick to head off for vacation or home to relax after finals, a team of 19 students, all members of Greek organizations at Dallas Baptist University, spent their first two weeks of summer serving in Chile.
A group of Dallas Baptist University students traveled to Vancouver, Canada, from May 16 to May 25, in order to lead a conference on congregational worship led by Larry Tardy. Working with the various ethnic congregations in the Vancouver area, these DBU students organized and taught different sessions on worship leadership and musical styles.

Participants in Student Welcome and Transition (SWAT) Week, volunteered at a variety of locations with projects ranging from landscaping to assembling backpacks filled with school supplies for a local church.

During the dinner, the 2013 Good Samaritan Awards were presented to Jim Palmer, founder of the Silver Serenaders of Texas, and John Clem, DBU director of development.
