Dr. Karen Alexander's Background
Karen Alexander is a Professor of English and Spanish at Dallas Baptist University. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Virginia, as well as another master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Baylor. She has completed post-doctorate studies at the Universidad Nacional de Cordoba in Argentina and the University of Texas at Arlington.
In addition to her academic scholarship, which primarily focuses on seventeenth-century literature, Dr. Alexander has published translations and original poetry. She has lectured at the annual conference of the international Latin American Studies Association, the Modern Language Association, and national literature conferences in Argentina. She also regularly presents and chairs with the South Central Modern Language Association.
DBU’s Piper/Outstanding Professor of the Year (2021), Dr. Alexander teaches composition and rhetoric, Spanish 1401 and 1402, Advanced Poetry Writing, Seventeenth-Century Poetry, Shakespeare, Literature from East Asia, Literature from Mexico, Survey of Spanish Literature, Survey of Latin American Literature, Golden Age of Spanish Theater, and Contemporary Israeli Literature. She is also an active member of the DOXA Literary Circle, DBU’s creative writing group for students, staff, professors, and alumni.
