What is the Pre-College Academy Summer Institute?

The Pre-College Academy Summer Institute is a unique opportunity for high school students to take a dual-credit course and experience the life of a DBU student. Students will live in the dorms, take classes with DBU professors, go on educational excursions, and take part in DBU student-life activities.

  • ENGL 1107 - Topics in Creative Writing
  • FINE 1306 - Introduction to Fine Arts
  • POLS 2301 - American National Government
  • PSYC 1301 - General Psychology

Apply for admission to DBU's Pre-College Academy Summer Institute:

  • Current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors in high school are eligible to apply.
  • If you are a new applicant to DBU's Pre-College Academy program, complete the online Pre-College Academy application.
    • When applying, select the term "PCA Summer Institute."

    • Deadline to apply: June 1, 2025
  • If you are an existing student in DBU's Pre-College Academy program, log into your DualEnroll account and select the term "PCA Summer Institute," and choose a desired course.

FAQ's

What are the requirements for admission?
  • At least four (4) successfully completed high school courses.
  • 3.0 GPA or higher.
  • Parent Consent.
Will I have academic requirements outside of the week?

It depends on the selected course. Introduction to Fine Arts, American National Government, and General Psychology will take place online from June 2 - July 2, alongside the June 8-13 in-person requirements.
Topics in Creative Writing will only have course requirements in-person from June 8-13. 

How many credit hours will I receive?
Introduction to Fine Arts, American National Government, and General Psychology are worth 3 credit hours. Topics in Creative Writing is worth 1 credit hour.
Does the price differ depending on the course?
No, the price is a set rate.
Are international students eligible to register for Pre-College Academy Summer Institute?
Yes, international students from global community partner schools are eligible to apply. International students must contact the DBU international admissions office at globalinfo@dbu.edu for more information.
