Shauna Chaffin’s Bold Perspective
“DBU cultivated in me a passion for boldness, a passion to want to serve and to never give up.” - Shauna Chaffin, DBU Alumni
After graduating from high school, Shauna Chaffin immediately started her career at AT&T, where she became a manager in AT&T’s Global Markets division. In 2006 she left the corporate world to pursue her dream:
- To raise a family
- Complete her undergraduate degree
- Bring her skills in global management to the mission field
Encouraged by her husband, Shauna began her undergraduate degree in business at Dallas Baptist University. She chose DBU because the adult education program made it easier for her to take classes while pursuing her career and raising her family.
"DBU is a place of caring people, of servant leaders. To have people who actually cared about me, that were excellent examples of leaders in my life… that really spurred me on to want to continue and not give up."
The flexibility of the program enabled her to continue her education, even while enduring an unthinkable tragedy. Shauna’s husband passed away suddenly of a heart attack, and her life changed forever. At DBU, she found a caring community of leaders who spurred her on to want to continue and not give up.
Shauna deepened her own faith, perseverance, and closeness with God in the midst of compassionate peers and mentors, as she said, "DBU is a place of caring people, of servant leaders. To have people who actually cared about me, that were excellent examples of leaders in my life… that really spurred me on to want to continue and not give up."
After receiving her undergraduate degree, Shauna joined East-West International Ministries, where she eventually became their Director of Mobilization. In 2012 she received a Masters of Arts in Global Leadership from DBU and continued to work toward an MBA, which she received in the Spring of 2014.
Founded in 1993 and active in 48 countries, East-West Ministries brings the Gospel of Christ all over the world. How did an MBA from Dallas Baptist University prepare Shauna for this work? "I loved the connection between both an organization that goes into the spiritually darkest places in the world to share the gospel of Christ, and then to be at a university that also is a bright light and wants to demonstrate Christ in how they serve. DBU cultivated in me a passion for boldness, a passion to want to serve and to never give up."
