Servant Leadership in the NFL: DBU Alumnus Alec McKisic
Alec McKisic graduated from DBU in the Spring of 2024 with a B.B.A. in Marketing and Entrepreneurship. The intentionality and personal investment he received from the Faculty and Staff during his time at DBU prepared him for his current role at the Pittsburgh Steelers as a Digital and Social Content Associate. DBU transformed his perspective and attitude as an undergraduate on the Hill.
He shared, "Looking back, it is such a blessing to be invested in an institution that helped me grow as a disciple for four years." DBU showed Alec not only how to think like a disciple but, more importantly, how to live like one. Walking in dedicated discipleship for Christ, Alec found himself becoming a more fruitful person. A few of Alec's classes, such as Consumer Behavior with Professor Sandra Crawford Williamson, Modern Media Storytelling with Professors Chris Fore and Dave Muscari, and Management Communication with Dr. Rick Jordan, provided great insight he carries with him in his post-grad career. "Experiences including what I learned in classes, and my time invested in Stone House, my fraternity Pi Theta Tau, in Ford Village, and serving at Valley Creek Church all shaped me into the man I am today."
While he was in high school, Alec developed an affinity for sports media. During his time on University Hill, Alec realized he wanted to pursue this field due to his interest in branding, strategy, and digital/social media marketing. He excitedly shared, "I have always been drawn to places where I can use all those gifts and passions." With his current position with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Alec has found God to be continuously good, especially during the transition from his home in DFW to Pittsburgh, PA. In his life and career thus far, Alec learned what it looks like to be faithful with what one has been given. "He is a God who gives us more than we can ask, think, or even imagine! I remember numerous times over the past few years when God told me to follow in a certain way, and I've had to make the choice to obey, not knowing what comes next."
Alec has been incredibly blessed and is assured that when he has said yes to God and chosen to submit and follow Him wholly, He has provided in astounding ways. "Relating to the Parable of the Talents, I strive to be a servant who takes what God gives me and doubles it by faith in Christ! I can't do anything with those talents if I don't give them back to Jesus."
