Student Groups You Could Join at DBU

"As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another." - Proverbs 27:17 NIV

Student groups and organizations at Dallas Baptist University are not just about expanding your horizons. They're about finding your community. They provide the perfect opportunity for college students to branch out of their field of study and into a group of people with similar interests. These groups are an important extension of the classroom experience, and they're also integral to our commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive environment for our students.

At Dallas Baptist University, we take pride in our wide range of student clubs and organizations. From social to spiritual groups, academic organizations to professional societies, and more, there's something for everyone. And if you don't find what you're looking for, you can create your own group! The possibilities are endless, and they're all here to help you shape and inform your future.

Becoming a member of a student organization is not just about gaining a sense of community and making friends. It's about personal growth, honing your leadership skills, and discovering more about yourself and your interests. It's about going beyond academics and engaging in the community. Not surprisingly, it pays dividends for your mental health, too. Researchers have found that there's a strong positive correlation between more student involvement and students' psychological well-being.

Here are just a few of the many active student organizations at DBU. No matter which direction you choose, you're making a transformative choice that can shape and inform your future.

Academic

In addition to many honors societies, such as Alpha Chi National Honors Society and Sigma Tau Delta International English Honors Society, DBU has organizations that enhance learning outside the classroom.

For example, Dallas Baptist Music Educators is a student group that networks with full-time music educators, attends workshops and clinics, and participates in activities — all to prepare members for a career in music education. Another education-specific opportunity is the Student Education Association, which promotes awareness of professional teacher organizations, professional responsibilities, and effective teaching strategies. Additional education-specific opportunities include Greek Life.

The Greek Life experience at DBU is a unique blend of social, service, ministry, leadership, and spiritual growth. Students learn from those involved in Greek life organizations and from those engaged in similar experiences in other organizations. Whether attending group activities for students, building a float during Homecoming Week, attending a weekly discipleship accountability group meeting, or taking part in fellowship with one of the other Greek organizations, there is always something fun and exciting happening. The members of your organization will become some of your closest friends as you engage the college experience together.

Service

Some people may feel called to step into a specific cause area to serve while engaging in team-building activities for students. One way to do that is through the Student Ambassadors program, which is a group of students who represent DBU at college nights and at local high schools to help with recruiting and publicity tasks.

For the more politically minded, the Student Government Association (SGA) establishes a direct line of communication between students and administration. Officers and senators are elected in the spring semester to serve the following academic year.

The Pro-life Patriots seek to uphold the dignity of every human life from conception to natural death, fostering a Culture of Life through education, community outreach, and activism on the DBU campus and surrounding areas.

Social

DBU has plenty of social clubs that cover many specific areas of interest and cater to students of all backgrounds. Many of these groups promote unity and appreciation of cultural diversity and enrichment, while others align with hobbies and extracurricular activities like chess, photography, pickleball, writing, tabletop gaming, and more. You can see the full list.

Spiritual

Through groups like the Baptist Student Ministry, Christian Legal Society, and Mu Kappa Alpha — Missionary Kids Alliance, students at DBU can further engage in missional living, discipleship, and hospitality. Here are a few more spiritual organizations to consider while at DBU:

Men's and Women's Ministries

DBU men's and women's ministries exist to glorify God through the gathering and fellowship of God-fearing men and women who are actively seeking Him and being obedient to His call. Biweekly meetings include fellowship, worship, and a message, and small groups gather at different times throughout the week to study the word of God.

Ratio Christi

Ratio Christi (Latin for "The Reason of Christ") is a global movement that brings together faith and reason to establish the intellectual voice of Christ in universities. Ratio Christi plants student-led apologetics clubs at universities around the world — and the DBU chapter is no different. Through meetings featuring guest speakers, public debates, and student-led discussions, they equip students for questions and teach them to defend the gospel lovingly — "being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you" (1 Peter 3:15).

Whether you're passionate about a particular area of service — or your senior superlative was "Most Likely to Join ALL The Clubs," DBU has just the place (or places) for you to expand your Christ-centered learning while serving and connecting with others. Go beyond the books — and discover your community in student groups.
