DBU Chapel: A Time of Worship, Community, and Spiritual Growth

Deepening your faith, connecting with God, learning more about Biblical teachings, and fostering a sense of community are all vital parts of your spiritual journey.

And one of the best ways to do these things is by attending Chapel, a requirement for all DBU undergraduate students as part of the path to earning their degree.

Chapel at DBU

Chapel is a weekly worship service where students can become closer to the Lord amid the hustle and bustle of college life. Chapel programs are presented on Mondays and Wednesdays for all students and Fridays for first-year students in the beautiful Patty and Bo Pilgrim Chapel on campus. Students get the chance to worship with their peers and hear truthful teachings from scripture.

Who Attends Chapel?

All non-exempt undergraduate students are required to attend chapel services — but all DBU students are encouraged to join at least one service per week.

Exempt students include:

  • Students 25 years of age or older as of the first class day of the first enrolled semester at DBU
  • Graduate students

How Does Chapel Benefit Students?

Between busy schedules and heavy workloads, college can be a stressful time for students. Attending chapel allows students to take a break from the chaos of their lives and recenter their focus on Christ. Students can build their relationship with God and strengthen their moral compasses through the consistent prayer and discipleship that Chapel facilitates.

"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." – Matthew 11:28-30 NKJV

Gathering at Chapel also allows fellow Christ-serving students to connect with one another and foster a sense of belonging while growing spiritually and actively engaging in the campus community.

Along with the opportunities to gather for worship and discipleship that come with attending chapel services, students will hear important announcements regarding campus life and additional Christ-centered events at DBU.

Chapel is a crucial part of DBU’s mission to provide Christ-centered quality higher education to produce servant leaders who can integrate faith and learning through their respective callings.

Off-Campus Spiritual Involvement

While undergraduates at DBU are required to attend Chapel, it does not replace local church involvement. All DBU students are encouraged to find a local church that feels like home, with Chapel serving as a supplement to regular service attendance. Below is a list of churches in the DFW area where many DBU students attend:

  • Northway Church: With a mission to glorify God by making disciples of Jesus Christ, Northway holds Sunday services at 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 4:00 p.m.
  • First Baptist Irving: First Baptist Irving holds its Sunday service at 10:45 a.m.
  • Stonegate Church: Stonegate holds Sunday services at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
  • Watermark Community Church: Watermark Church holds in-person Sunday services at 9:00 a.m., 11:15 a.m., and 4:00 p.m. You can also stream services online at 9:00 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. every Sunday, and services in Spanish are held at 11:15 a.m. every Sunday.

For more information or assistance on finding a local church, contact DBU's Baptist Student Ministry, a group of students that partner with local churches to share the good news of Jesus.

How Can I Become a Chapel Worship Leader?

DBU Chapel Worship is a vibrant community of passionate students from diverse cultural and musical backgrounds who lead worship in Chapel each week. Chapel Worship exists to bring glory to God through worship, songwriting, musical training, and developing disciples of Jesus. Chapel Worship not only leads worship at weekly chapel services but also at Nights of Worship, BSM events, and other on- and off-campus events.

First-year and transfer students may send their auditions for Chapel Worship through video, and the deadline to audition is in June. Chapel Worship also offers scholarships for both first-year and current students. If you're interested in joining Chapel Worship and are a first-year student, fill out the Scholarship Application; otherwise, email Chapel Worship to get started!
