Commissional Corner: MAGL Students Amin and Luisa

Amin and Luisa

Amin and his wife, Luisa, celebrated their graduation from Baptist University of the Americas in August of this year. Luisa obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Business Leadership while Amin worked towards his Bachelor of Arts in Theology and was in the ESL program. The two met during their time at BUA and got married. They both chose to continue their education at DBU in the MAGL program and are now two of our current students!

Amin shared with us how he came to follow Christ and his life was forever changed. After coming to know Christ, Amin desired to learn more about his faith and what he was called to. With much prayer, he decided to study at the Rio Grande Bible Institute. “While I was studying, I decided to be a missionary. The seminary education was not enough because I learned how to teach and preach, but I did not know English. Many missionary agencies require English, so I prayed and decided to study ESL and Theology at Baptist University of the Americas. We finished BUA and wanted to continue to the MAGL because we prayed and decided to concentrate on the topic of missions. Finally, God confirmed to us, “Desire without knowledge is not good, and whoever makes haste with his feet misses his way”, (Proverbs 19:2). We recognize that our relationship with God and our knowledge is essential to impact the lives of the communities. For this reason, we prayed and decided to pursue further education.”

Luisa and Amin have led several mission trips to the Amazon over the years and have enjoyed being able to apply the material they are learning in the mission field. Luisa shared some of the challenges they have dealt with. “The most challenging aspect we faced in missionary trips to the Amazon was the change of environment. All comfort, such as the internet, electricity, bathrooms, and air conditioning, is not there. It is a different world, full of vegetation, silence, a variety of animals, and people with a different worldview, even if they speak the same language. Continuing my higher education has allowed me to have a different perspective of seeing the world around me.”

Luisa shared how working in ministry with her husband has helped them both grow. “Working alongside my husband in ministry reaffirms my calling. ‘May our life together be a missionary journey that lasts a lifetime’ is our motto for life. This motto means that our life must be dedicated to growing intimately in our relationship with God and with one another. At all times, we must depend on God to be willing to share his love through the Gospel, discipleship, and our gifts. Our goal as a couple is to grow spiritually, but at the same time help and encourage other people to grow in their relationship with God. The result of living a life as if it were a missionary journey is to see lives transformed. As we see lives changed, we long to see communities transformed by the power of Jesus Christ, fulfilling God’s mission. This connects us in love for God and love as a couple since we have the same mission, vision, and ministry call.”

Amin and Luisa faithfully continue to pursue the call of missions God has placed on their lives.
