The Dorothy M. Bush College of Education has been offering fully accredited educator preparation programs since 1966. The college offers programs of study at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Professors of the college integrate faith and learning from a Biblical world view in every class. Graduates of our programs are in high demand by area school districts and private schools.
The DBU Educator Preparation Program provides students with rich, field-based experiences in diverse public and private, urban and rural, large and small school settings. Our student teacher preparation includes observation of master teachers.
Representatives from various academic disciplines of the University, school district administrators, teachers, community representatives, teacher candidates, alumni, and College of Education full-time professors are selected to serve on the Educator Preparation Program Advisory Board which functions as an advisory group for the education program.
The Educator Preparation Program at Dallas Baptist University is accredited by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and approved by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) to prepare, train, and recommend teacher, school counselor, diagnostician, reading specialist, principal, and superintendent candidates for certification. The University also has regional accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
Why DBU?
Pearl Bailey
Undergraduate Education Major
"What I love most about being a Patriot is the community. I transferred in from a community college where I felt alone because I was the only Christian; I didn’t have anyone to fellowship and grow with. I have found all of those things and more at DBU. Coming to a school that taught me how to integrate Christ into my education was the cherry on top of attending a university that is nationally ranked for our education program."
Clay Pickering
Master of Education
"On campus, I discovered warm, welcoming, and encouraging students and faculty. In the College of Education, I experienced impeccable academics and an uncompromising commitment to the Kingdom of God. I am grateful to God for the DBU College of Education and I pray that I will always represent the school well."
Mission Statement
The purpose of the Educator Preparation Program is to provide a Christ-centered, supportive learning environment in which teacher candidates develop as servant leaders to transform the lives of students in order to create a positive impact in their local and global community. The Educator Preparation Program seeks to prepare DBU teacher candidates through the development of deep content and pedagogical knowledge, effective skills, and critical dispositions.
The Program is committed to developing reflective teacher candidates through relevant field-based experiences who can integrate faith and learning as they implement and adapt effective instructional strategies to meet the individual needs of diverse students, meaningfully incorporating technology and multiple assessments.
Vision Statement
The vision of the Educator Preparation Program is to produce Christ-centered educators who are committed to answering the call to education and transforming the world through excellent instruction and Biblical servant leadership.
